In 2008, the Union for the Mediterranean replaced the Euro-Mediterranean partnership formerly known as the "Barcelona Process". The partnership brings together the 27 Member States of the European Union and 16 partner countries from the South Mediterranean region and the Middle East. After Croatia joining the EU (2013), the UfM comprises the 28 EU Member States, the European Commission and 15 Mediterranean countries.
